Excited for Arena Cross World Finals in Vegas Baby
What a blessing to have such great support. We just returned from Sacramento and it was awesome. All of our bikes were running great. Our Dunlop tires hooked up awesome in the Sacramento clay, while the Amzoil inside kept everything safe as Dawson kept it on the pipe. Sixsixone and Sidi offered protection from head to foot, which was much needed as he came up short on the Catapult once on his 65. Special thanks to Dave Hensley Const, NPT, and Saylor Properties, as well as Ensign, and Casey Concrete for providing the resources to stay competitive. Thanks guys.
Dawson qualified 2nd in the 65cc 7-11 class on Saturday. He went on to race an awesome race that evening with a sold out crowd in the Arco arena. He raced nearly the entire race in 2nd looking for a shot at 1st. He then bobbled in the rythm section and ended up with 4th. Still a great finish in the open class. On Sunday he also qualified near the front in both the 65 7-9 and 85 7-11 classes. He went on to race an awesome 65 race again battling with the front runners and ultimately finishing 3rd. After a terrible start on his 85 he fought his way back from 20th to finish 8th. He currently sits 4th in overall points in the 65 7-9 class and 5th in the 85 7-11 class with Denver this next weekend. He will race the 65 Friday and Saturday nights with the pros and both the 65 and 85 on Sunday. It looks like a respectable finish will keep him in the points and earn him an invitation to the Arena Cross World Finals in October. I was also able to lead a devotion on the Personal God we serve, on Sunday after the riders meetings. Thanks Team Faith for opening up that door for us. Thanks again for all your help. Couldn't do it without your support.Jason Newbyfor Dawson Newby316
Dawson had a great time in Albuquerque despite not being able to practice before the event. We have had snow on the ground since Reno in November. We pulled into Albuquerque Friday January 18th literally without having started his bikes since Reno. Dawson spent a good portion of the exhibition on Friday night and practice on Saturday simply getting used to things again. He managed to qualify and ultimately finished in the top 10 on both bikes. His finishes moved him up to 4th overall in the points on both the 65 and 85. Thanks again to our sponsors. His Dunlop tires stick like glue. No doubts when you throw it into the corner. We really come to appreciate our Amzoil products when we get to AX races as warming time is very limited. The bikes get cold, then started, raced and allowed to cool off again. We have confidence knowing Amzoil has us covered. Thanks to 661 for protecting my kids head when he falls. I wouldn't trust that coconut to just anyone. Thanks guys.
Wow what a weekend. Thanks again to our sponsors. November 16-18 was the first round of the Western Region Toyota Arenacross series. We plan to hit all 4 races in the Western Region in hopes of qualifying for the World Finals in Las Vegas next Oct. After driving through the night Thursday night Dawson and I arrived in Reno Friday just in time for his 65cc practice. During pracitce he came down hard on the catapult landing and face planted. He seemed a little gunshy the rest of Friday and although he qualified for the evening show, finished 10th or so. Saturday was a new day. His practice went better, and he seemed to have a renewed fire. He qualified for the main easily finishing in the top 4. Saturday evening during the main event however he went down hard. He was doubling out of the rythym section when he caught his front tire and went over the bars. It was one of those falls where you instantly begin praying as a father. He was hurt and i could tell it. He managed to get up, get on his bike and finish the race but was in pain. He took a good shot to the head, bruised some ribs, and took a bar to the gut, but other than that he was fine. Sunday, the day that really counts rolls around and his head was still hurting. We had the whole talk about getting back in there, confidence, all that. He had a decent but conservative practice on both the 65 and the 85. He finished 1st in his 65 qualifier and 4th in his 85 so he was in both mains, however was still riding very conservative. This continued until the 3rd lap of his 85 main event when the light went on. He rolled the jump right before the 60' catapult with 2 other riders one on each side, with him sitting in 8th position. He later told me that at this point he saw the guys slightly in front of him, one on each side, and simply thought... see ya. Anyway he came over the jump, pinned it, and hit the Catapult for the first time all day launching himself into 6th. He closed the ground between him and 5th but was unable to make the pass stick as he hit the Catapult one last time to end the race. He finished by saying, wow, I wish I would have done that earlier. Me too buddy, me too. He was encouraged as we get ready for Albequerqe knowing that he really can compete in the top 3 when he has the confidence to ride like he can. Thanks again to all of our amazing sponsors. If you do not already use their products check them out, there is not a sponsor we have that is not among the best in their particular line. Thanks guys, wouldn't be possible without you.
I keep trying to enter results but I'm not having much luck. Anyway the SX last weekend was a blast. I finished 4th in the 85 7-11 class behind some of the fastest guys in the nation. Tanner Wienland, Mitchell Gifford, Chris Kinny. 65 7-9 5th, and 65 7-9 open I got a terrible start and finished 9th. Cool weekend though. Another special thanks to all my sponsors, check them out.
Wow, what a weekend. Just returned from the Toyota AX National in Denver CO. Overall I was pleased with Dawson's performance although never satisified. He too struggled with the final results.
After 2 1/2 months of deep snow here in CO we arrived at the AX with no practice in that length of time. With 4 laps of practice on Friday morning in the Denver Coliseum Dawson somehow managed to qualify for Friday nights main event during his first Heat race. Although it was nice to hang out and rest during the day, having to go on to the semi's would have given him more practice. He was pumped for Friday night but found that those Nat'l boys were too. He was one of only 6 Colorado riders to qualify for the 65 class. He ended up coming together with one while trying to pass and ultimately finished 15th.
Saturday brought a lot more new faces to the 65 class and I actually wasn't holding out a lot of hope, however; again he qualified. He actually finished 4th in his heat race resulting in a relaxing Sat. as well. Saturday night bound and determined to make it to the front he began working his way up through the pack. At one point I had him 7th or 8th but he came together with another rider in the woop section, which landed him into one of the tough blocks. He finished a disappointing 13th.
Sunday brought the more appropriate 65 7-9 class. Dawson is still only 8 and most of those riders Fri. and Sat. had a few years on him in that 7-11 class. He again qualified during his first heat race. In the main event he quickly moved up to 4th place and with one lap left was passing the the 3rd place rider when he slammed the door tight. With a front wheel taken out just before the catapult he got himself back together to wind up finishing 10th.
On one hand, what a disappointing weekend. On the other, I saw him doing some things I had never seen: taking new lines, making more aggressive passes, and ultimately sucking it up and going for it with no practice and facing an older and more experienced field of riders. Sunday showed me at least that he can contend with any 65cc arena cross riders in the nation. We are thinking toward the Western Division series next year, in hopes of earning an invitation to the World Finals in Las Vegas.
Thanks so much for your help,
We couldn't do it without our sponsors.
Can't wait for the Toyota AX the end of Jan. Interested in tickets? Check out www.arenacross.com we would love to see you there. This will be Dawson's 2nd year riding the 65 on Friday and Saturday nights. Last year he made the main but finished near the end, this year he hopes to be in the top 5... we'll see.
Wow,
Thanks guys for all of the new and renewed contracts for 2007. We really feel like we have a program that will give us the help we need to get it done in 2007. We could not do it with all of the support! Praise God.
Grand Jct. was a race with it`s ups and downs for sure. Dawson began the day with a 5th in the first moto of the 65 class. He then took the hole shot, quickly took a considerable lead, and then over shot a step down and cased the triple resulting in the worst spill I have seen him take. The medical personel had to remove him from the track but he quickly got his wits about him and finished the race. He was a little rattled during the rest of the morning session but finished 2nd in the 2nd moto of his class 2 50cc race giving him a 4th overall. The 4th was enough to place him 1st in the Super Cross season points. After some serious encouragement he came out ready to roll for the evening session and finished 1st in the 50cc open class, placing him in 1st in the open 50 SX points as well. Grand Jct. gave huge trophies as well which made his 1st, 1st place all the sweeter.
