I'd have to say the rush of it. I would equate a long (or even short), flowy trail like riding on a long, theme park roller coaster/log flume but you have control of the vehicle, along with plenty of chances to lose it.
In the spring of 2006, I had been back trail riding for a little over a year, after a 6 year long hiatus due to my military obligations. I happened to catch an episode of "Modern Marvels: Extreme Sports Tech" on TV where they were showcasing freeriding up in BC. I thought to myself, 'That's the kind of riding I want to learn. I already ride trail. I've been into extreme sports since early high school. This would be fun.' And the fun began.
Yes
Hopefully still riding somewhere, and with a little more skill. I plan on riding for as long as I'm physically able.
Practice. Start on the small stuff; work your way up. Have confidence. Also ensure you have quality equipment, as this sport places a lot of stress on a bike, and your body. But the fun, and rush you get from it is well worth it!
I love riding bikes and motorcycles. I rode BMX bikes when I was a kid. I skateboarded in high school. I switched to street/ramp inline skating when I was in college, then tried out mountain bike trail riding and was hooked on that. After a hiatus of a few years, I got into freeriding in early 2006; been hooked ever since.
Well if I had more opportunities to compete, I would be glad to answer that question. Slopestyle, Freeriding and Downhill here in Middle Tennessee are still in their infancy. Myself and a few others are trying to make the scene bigger and turn more riders onto the genre. If there were contests around here, you can bet I would be competing.
I'm 36 years old. Single. I live in a house with three worthless dogs. I spent 6 years as a U.S. Marine. I'm currently an I.T. desktop/laptop support technician for a communications company. I lead a pretty laid back, low-key lifestyle and try to spend as much time as I can either riding or (trail) building.
Wait. What? We were supposed to grow up? I don't recall ever getting that memo. A youthful exuberance and sense of humor will take you a long way.
Anything but modern twangy country music and gangsta rap. My favorite is probably Classic Rock; Steve Miller being my favorite Classic Rock band. I also like house, progressive house, trance and breakbeat.
